“First They Call You A Whore…”

Less than a day after Nikki Haley won the Republican nomination for governor in South Carolina, the South Carolina Democratic Party—whom I am becoming more and more convinced are functionally retarded—created a Facebook page called “Republicans for Sheheen“.
Because, well, let’s face it, Vincent Sheheen is a nobody’s nobody, I need to introduce you guys to him. Sheheen is a state senator from Camden, with all the prerequisite prior connections and networks. Suffice it to say, if you called Central Casting and asked for a stereotypical politician, you’d get Vince.
While “Republicans for Sheheen” is obviously an attempt at astroturfing, it’s fun to see what the Dems’ game plan is, as telegraphed by this page. Hell, we even have Democrats pretending to be “concerned Republicans” who are trying to drive a wedge between Nikki Haley and the Republican voters who overwhelmingly support her.
What is the South Carolina Democratic Party plan to defeat Haley? I’ll walk you through it:
- Call her a whore. In 2007, Haley was asked by the governor to be part of a diplomatic delegation to China that included South Carolina business owners, state Commerce Department officials, the governor, and other legislators.
- SC Dems distorted, and continue to distort the facts, insinuating that she slept with Governor Sanford. She did not.
In fact, she is so confident that she did not cheat on her husband at any point during her life, that she promised to resign her elected post as governor, if she is proven to be a liar. Not only is she calling her shot, she is guaranteeing that no fouls will be called after the play. Either she did it and thinks she’ll get away with it, or she didn’t do it.
- It’s that simple.
- Connect her to Mark Sanford. Mark Sanford is a sex scandal-ridden governor, and if he cheated on his wife—Jenny Sanford, who famously moved the entire Sanford family (sans Mark and his Latin American lover) out of the Governor’s Mansion—well, hell’s bells, then Haley must have cheated on her husband, too!
- Drive a wedge into the Republican Party. Much of the “Republicans For Sheheen” page focuses on what they consider dishonesty on the Republican Party’s party towards libertarian-minded people. One faux Republican writes, “Conservatives often claim the libertarian label when it serves the needs of the moment.”Who wants to bet me $5 that this goofball is really a Democrat? Yeah, I thought so.
- Call Republicans idiots. A picture added to the “Republicans for Shaheen” page has a sheep watching Haley nomination speech, with a Nikki Haley sign at
tached to it.Get it? Nikki Haley supporters are sheep! Ha ha ha ha! Democrats are so good at satire and subtley, especially when they’re pretending to be Republicans!
- Call her a “raghead.” While anti-Haley, pro-bigotry Republican Senator Jake Knotts is the most infamous for this tactic, first popularized in the Republican primary, Democrats are guilty of it too. From whisper campaigns and dog-whistles about her being a Sikh (which is false, she is Methodist Christian), to outright race-baiting, such as this gem by syndicated cartoonist Robert Ariail:
Get it? She’s one of them thar Mooslems! Better vote for the white guy! This kind of dog-whistle racism makes me sick.
Sadly, the Democrats think that this is a winning strategy for Team Sheheen. I hope that they’re wrong, because it wouldn’t speak well of my fellow man if this played well.
I could go on and on, and while the Democrats and faux-Republicans spin their wheels in the mud, Haley continues to spread her message of fiscal conservatism and common sense. Apparently, South Carolinians are buying it in droves, as she maintains a twelve-point lead over good-ol’-boy Vincent Sheheen.
It’s long past time for things to be shaken up in the Palmetto State, and that’s just what Haley is doing.
You go, girl!

From an Ethnic standpoint, she is a Sikh (her family name is Randahwa). But she is correctly downplaying it. (I remember when the local mall opened in 1984 the Randahwas had a clothing store — moved 50 miles to the northwest thanks to stupid taxes — at the local mall.)
The “Republicans for The Democratic Challenger” trick is established and won the Democrats the gubernatorial election 12 years ago, leading to a MASSIVE expansion of the state’s government and wasteful spending in the form of the state “education lottery” that has done zero for schools while rewarding crazy spending on failed teacher unions.
The Democrat strategy is directly manufactured from the Saul Alinsky playbook, the one that gave us Barack Obama.

Sikhism is not a ethnicity. It’s a religion. One can be a Sikh without being of Indian decent. It’s not my fault they’re using the word incorrectly.
As for the whole “Republicans for $Democrat” thing, yeah, it’s the oldest trick in the book. That’s the point. Anyone with half a brain isn’t fooled.

I’m sorry, but what would be the problem if she were a Sikh?
Far too many people are showing EXTREME ignorance about the Sikh religion. The burka, for example, is nowhere in the Sikh faith. In fact, the founder of the faith rejected the notion that women were not equal to men. So the idea that a Sikh woman would promote a burka is preposterous.
Democrats never cease to amaze me in their intolerance and bigotry. They howled when people pointed out that 0bama was educated in a madrassa but have no problem warning people not to vote for Haley because she might be a closeted Sikh.
Were I Indian and/or a Sikh I would run screaming from the democrat party. Ah … there’s the rub … most Indians are Republicans. Like Cubans it is OK to trash them because they refuse to become slaves on the democrat plantation.
I don’t care what religion Nikki Haley is or might be. If she is a solid conservative I am all for her!

With all due respect, it seems pretty tenuous to imply Haley is a political heavyweight in comparison to Sheheen.
Haley is a state representative from Lexington and I believe both were elected in 2004.
None of this is to make excuses for the mud-slinging which will take place over the next few months, but given both have about the same amount of experience and, I’d imagine, clout in the legislature, I’m not sure knocking Sheheen’s political background is a valid argument.

As bad as the cartoon is, Ariail’s defense of it is possibly even more pathetic. He claims that the bikini panel represents Haley’s claim of transparency and the burka panel represents her alleged obfuscation.
I posted the following comment on Ariail’s site, but he didn’t have the guts to publish it, so I’m posting it here:
(Ariail:) “Anyone who claims this cartoon is an ethnic or religious slur is deliberately misconstruing its simple, issue-oriented meaning.”
Of course! Anyone who thinks you’re trying to lend credibility to the whisper campaign is simply nuts. Who could possibly think that portraying her as a the epitome of a sex object would cause people to recall the vile stories about her alleged affairs? Who could possibly think that drawing her in a burka would cause anyone to think of the ignorant claims that she’s secretly a Muslim? No, Ariail, you’re utterly pure of heart. There are no other visual images-like sunshine vs. nighttime, or eyeglasses vs. a blindfold–that could possibly have made your alleged point as well as what you chose.
You’re as bad at lying as you are at drawing.
