The Comeback of the Gullwing
Gull-wing is a 1950s car that was made by Mercedes-Benz. It is actually named 300SL Coupe but it got its nickname gull-wing because of the doors that are gull-wing type. Instead of the usual design of doors, these ones open like the gulls’ wings when flying. The doors will open by swinging them upward. It was a magnificent car of its times and now it is brought back with the 2011 Mercedes SLS AMG.
The SLS AMG is not only sleek in its design it’s also affordable. The chassis is all-aluminum and has a capacity of 6.2 liters. It is V8 engine and can have 563 horsepower. Its fastest speed is at 197mph. The mileage is about 14mpg when in a city, 20mpg when driving on a highway. It is both manual and automatic that is seven-speed. It is not as lightweight as other cars but still it can compete with the likes of Porsche and Ferrari. It may not seem as flamboyant as the usual speed cars like the Lamborghini; still it can steal the eyes of a lot of car enthusiasts.
The interiors are composed of power seats with memory functions, leather upholstery, navigation system, dual-zone automatic climate control, iPod slot, satellite radio, outstanding audio system, six-disc CD or DVD changer and more. The additional options are car seat covers that are custom made, surround-sound system, lightweight aluminum wheels, state of the art carbon-ceramic brakes, high quality suspension, specific paint colors and much more. As for the safety equipment there are side airbags, side curtain airbags, the airbags for the knees, antilock disc brakes and others. The brakes were tested to be really powerful and can be on full stop within 98 feet from a speed of 60mph. So overall it is a quality sports car at a very affordable price.
